Walk Wisconsin 2020 Updates

Effective April 1, 2020: Walk Wisconsin 2020 has been canceled.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the current COVID-19 pandemic, Active Portage County has decided to cancel Walk Wisconsin 2020, previously scheduled for June 6, 2020. This cancelation is necessary to follow health and safety guidelines as well as ensure we keep walkers, volunteers and event staff safe.

Normally, the first Saturday in June saw a community of walkers from across Wisconsin, the Midwest and the nation head out on the Green Circle Trail. The non-competitive walking event, held annually in conjunction with National Trails Day, was started in 2005 as a way create a healthier Portage County. Since then, Walk Wisconsin's appeal grew well beyond Portage County, welcoming participants from more than 30 states and 3 countries. Over the years, we have seen a groundswell of wellness-minded individuals who have shared the positive impact that walking has made to their lives.

While Active Portage County is disappointed to not share this day with our community of walkers, we know that it is the best course of action. Active Portage County is still hopeful that our fall programming will continue as planned, including the Hard Rocks Hiking Challenge and Moon Walk Wisconsin.

Active Portage County would like to that their sponsors, volunteers and participants for their on-going support. In the coming weeks we strive to continue to provide ways to keep the community moving and hope you continue to help support our mission in central Wisconsin.

Until then, stay safe and keep moving.

Event Cancelation FAQ's:

I registered for Walk Wisconsin 2020, now what?

All registered walkers should be receiving an email to outline three options. While we are bummed that we can't walk together or share high fives at the finish line in 2020, we know this is just a temporary hiccup. Each walker will have until April 17, 2020 to decide what they'd like to do.

Did you register, but haven't received an email? Let us know.

Will there be a virtual event?

No, but keep walking anyway. We strongly encourage people to keep moving during this time, while practicing social distancing.

Will the event be rescheduled?

Due to the uncertainties currently, that is not feasible. But, save the date for Walk Wisconsin 2021 - slated for June 5, 2021.

Will any shirts, bags, or water bottles be mailed out?

No. Thankfully we were able to cancel all orders in advance of them being shipped.

What other events can I participate in?

Hopefully plenty of events, after this virus finishes ITS course. Let's just hope its course is a shorter distance, like a 5k and not a full marathon.

Check back with our events page to see the line-up, as they are added.

What can I do in the meantime?

Follow all the safety guidelines set (you've seen them posted everywhere) so we can get back to business as usual. While this is certainly uncharted territory, just know that time spent walking is never wasted. Until the next event, stay safe, stay healthy and keep moving.
